A few minutes in the Sun

This is at least the second time I have read that we need to spend some time each day in the sun to be healthy. I read somewhere else the suggestion that we should spend 5 to 10 minutes a day, in essentially a bathing suit, exposed to the sun.

I know that for me, despite living in sunny Arizona, I spend way over 90% of my life fully clothed and in the shade.

There is skin cancer to think about, but I recently read that thousands of cases of cancer in Europe are attributed to sunshine deficiencies. Find the happy medium, I guess.

I've been mowing the lawn in a bathings suit (backyard), Steve Mathews style. But this Mnoday i got a little too much and a little bit burned.

Does sun screen nullify any of the benefits of the sun?
