Me wantee 5: The Walkstation

I just saw this in the latest issue of Business Week:


I love it! (...for work, not home)

I saw an obesity researcher on TV a few months ago who had rigged up something similar for his work desk. He said he walked 8 - 10 miles everyday while at work.

Andrew, it looks like someone beat you to market on this one.

UPDATE: After our Sunday dinner conversation, this idea does not obviate Andrew's idea -- it validates it.

just for the novelty of it.
like how every bagley man has to have a sonicare or auto-toothbrush.

I'm starting to think you think about efficiency more than I! If you actually splurge and get it, you'll have to tell me if it works. Of course, in calculating the NPV be sure to include the negative costs of clearing a meeting room after you've finished a sweaty session.

You really don't sweat at all unless you want to challenge your self at a higher speed while you are reading but going 1.0 mph is a breeze and you don't notice you are even walking after awhile. More importants, it works. I had back issues that have disappeared. I sleep like a baby at night and during the day I feel like I am on drugs....the good kind, endorphins. I walk 6 - 8 miles a day in my home office and sweating is not an issue unless I want to ramp it up a little while I am reading on the internet. I have lost 18 pounds already so I am a convert. The cost of the WalkStation is a concern for me but there is another product that offers more flexibility to use you own treadmill during the day as a desk and for exercise after work. It is called the TrekDesk. Pricing isnt set yet but it states on the TrekDesk website that it is going to be very affordable. They also are offering a pretty snazzy exercise ball chair that swings onto the treadmill (or off) for those moments when you have to sit. The website is www.trekdesk.com and has a lot of information on studies which focus on the long term benefits of walking. Hope this helps.
